The lighting masterplan is a part general development project for the city of Bukhara – an architectural marvel of Uzbekistan, with its almost entire Old Town classified as UNESCO World Heritage Site. I joined the project team with Ingelux Consultants in February ’24. Project in collaboration with Wilmotte Architects.

Due to confidentiality and on-going nature of the project, contents are not available for display. Presented pictures are from the on-site visits, showing the unique architectural background of the project.

My involvement:

  • On-site interviews with various stakeholders (authorities, police, politicians, merchants, tourism representatives, engineers, electricians etc.) to understand the geographical, technological, and socio-economical context for the lighting
  • Analysis of World Heritage monuments and their feasibility for the new lighting
  • Measurement of existing lighting infrastructure, including its mapping and quantification
  • Calculation and design of new lighting proposals for key areas of the city
  • Creating detailed design guidelines for various urban typology
  • 3D modelling and visualisations
